“You should come to our block party,” suggested my good friend Bob, who I now live two blocks away from in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago.
Yes, I’ve moved out of the West Loop and into an actual proper tree-lined neighborhood. Why, is a story for another time. Suffice it to say I’m still a little new to the idea of neighborhood block parties. But I’m always game for a new experience, so after I finished a day of unpacking at the new place, I thought, why not.
And you know how some guys just love to congregate around the BBQ at these types of events? I’m the same way with an A/V cart. And before I knew it, I was helping Bob set up the large rear projection screen on the curb in front of his house and adjusting the keystone settings on the projector. I just can’t help myself.
As it got dark, the kids started to line up their chairs in front of the screen. There’s nothing like outdoor movies. And while the Chicago Park District has been amazing with scheduling Movies in the Parks all throughout the summer, this was a nice little private screening at the end of a cul-de-sac. Really a bit of wonderful.
The movie was Home, a Dreamworks family film, which I hadn’t seen before. But it was a perfect movie for the evening. And a good way to wind down a day-long block party.
Block Party Movie Night. I think I’m going to enjoy my new neighborhood.
