The Chicago Theatre. It’s amazing to think that I’ve been seeing shows there for over 30 years now. I saw “Singin’ in the Rain” and “La Cage aux Folles” there, way back in the early 80s. And it actually rained on stage during the former. Many concerts, including Jethro Tull, Joe Jackson, Ray Charles, Sting before he got weird.
I saw Jerry Seinfeld do stand-up there during the Seinfeld years and got to meet him back stage after the show. I walked down the red carpet for the premiere of director Sam Mendes’ Road to Perdition starring Tom Hanks. It was quite amusing to watch the cameras drop away from the faces of the lined up photographers, once they realized my group were nobody.
I saw Eddie Izzard there. David Sedaris. Both incredible shows.
The Chicago Theatre is inching its way to being 100 years old. Still going, although there was talk of demolishing it in the 80s. Thankfully, reasonable people managed to stop that.
It’s a beautiful place.
