I often tell people that I find my most creative time of day happens to be between the hours of 10pm and 4am. It’s been that way going all the way back to when I was in a rock band back in high school. I did most of the song writing for our band, and it’s also when I discovered that I was a much better nocturnal writer than I was in the light of day.
My beautiful model friend Jordan and I had a wonderful period of creating art in the middle of the night a few years ago. There was something about the night that just brought out the most wonderful exploring and discovery whenever we would shoot.
It was a tremendously prolific art period for both of us. When I go back and look at those shoots, it’s amazing to see how many different setups we would accomplish between those glorious 10-4 hours. I find while reviewing those shoots years later, I often say to myself, “Wait, we did that… and that… and that… and that? All in one night? Wow!”
We’d finish up, sometimes as late as 6 or 7am, and maybe grab some breakfast or coffee and head off to our day time responsibilities, missing out on on sleep, but fueled by what we had just created.
Here’s to nighttime creating!
