There are good things to discover early in the morning. I’m not really a morning person by nature, but I do find that when I’m traveling, I’m up much earlier than I am when I’m home. And it usually brings good photographic moments.
I made this photograph walking through Vatican City one early morning. Crews up doing their thing, which in Italy usually means a little work, mixed with a generous helping of conversation.
In this case, a chance to discuss something in the newspaper. Easy to imagine the conversation happening even though I didn’t speak Italian when I made this photo. But the furrowed brow on the man holding the newspaper makes it possible to imagine, “Can you believe what they’re trying to get away with now?”
I enjoy a photo that almost demands you make up a little story to go with it.
