I’ve known Jillian Ann for about 14 years now. I met her when she was using her modeling to pay for her music gear. You see, while she loved being in front of the camera, music was always her predominant passion. It still is.
A few years ago while we were collaborating on some art and fashion photos, she asked me if we could make one of her with a grand piano for some upcoming press she was going to be in. No problem. I simply had to find a grand piano we could use for a few hours.
Happily, in those days the building my studio is located in was also home to Music in the Loft. MITL was the creation of the late Fredda Hyman, who several times a year turned her loft into a small chamber music concert venue, featuring some of the most brilliant up and coming international classical musicians.
I contacted her author husband Sidney, who I would see around the building to ask if we might rent their space to use the piano for a few hours and he generously agreed to let us come up. It’s a beautiful space and the portrait I made of Jillian is one of my favorites.
Of course, Jillian remains passionate about her music and it continues to evolve through her Make Life a Ritual Project.
